Day 3 – Burpee Challenge

What up, world?

It’s Day 3 of the #JustDoTen challenge, and this one’s for the high hurdlers. Back in the day, our FSU Men’s high hurdle crew (110mHH) —Phillip Riley, Marcus Dixon, Kez McCorvey, Wayne Messum, and myself—was coached by the legendary Kim McKenzie,  (now Coach Kim Seals), Olympic Bronze Medalist in the women’s 100mHH.  Coach Kim and Coach Jim Long, they pushed us over 42-inch hurdles, but today, I’m just asking for 10 burpees.

This challenge is more than reps—it’s about reconnecting, calling out those who shaped us, and honoring conversations with brothers like Kelsey Nash and homeboy, David E. It’s also a nod to Dr. Kendrick Scott, PhD’s message: “Get off the couch.”

I’m calling out Coach Kez McCorvey, Coach Kim Seals, Coach Boushé Fuller, Harrison Robinson, Jr., and Corey Lockhart. You don’t need gear, just heart. So whether you’re barefoot in the garage or on a gym floor, just do 10.

💥 Bonus shoutout to LMH. Those final 5 were for you.

Eat. Sleep. Workout. Repeat.

Let’s keep going. One set at a time.

Coach Kim and Coach Jim, they both kept us in line the best they could. Made us all better hurdlers. Love Coach Jim. Miss you, Coach Jim. He was a cool dude. He had that lean. Coach Jim, Coach Kim, let me see you get 10 burpees. Coach Kim’s in Huntsville, Alabama. What up, Huntsville? She’s over there at Hazel Green. Mr. Fulford, we see you. Hazel Green’s about to play. Number six. You get your stom. Okay, set number two. So it’s coach Kim MacKenzie. The challenge. See, I’m stalling the challenge. Coach Kim MacKenzie. Coach Kim McKenzie. Let’s inspire these dudes. Okay, set number two. The hurdles are 42 inches high. In college, 42 inches is pretty high. It comes up to about right here. So I had to move my center of gravity a lot when I was in college. I see you, dog. Persist. That’s what that right there says. It says persist. That was set number two. One more set, Coach Kim. Coach Kezzer. Let’s set that example. Yo, so I know there’s some other coaches out there connected to that FSU Huntsville High school timeline. Worried they’re gonna get called out. Yeah, you might. Coach Peewee, might coach high school, might coach college, might coach the pros, but you’re gonna get Called out. All right, little storytelling. Part of this challenge comes out of a conversation that I had with my man, Kelsey Nash. Me and Kelsey talk all the time.

Kelsey looks out for me since we had our rum runner night in Tallahassee, and were Talking about how Dr. Kendrick Scott has been challenging us for years to get off the couch and how we have to do something. There’s a Harvard study out there on push ups says that if you do push ups, it decreases your chance of having a cardiovascular event by almost 70%. They did a study with firefighters, so me and Kelsey were talking about that. I decided to do the burpee challenge out of that conversation with another conversation I had with my boy Davis. So that’s where this burpee challenge just kind of grew out of those conversations. So here we go. Set number three. Set number three. Just do 10. We going to get you five extra ones. These fiber for LMH. Take it. Five LM. Let’s get them.

That’s 1450. Three sets. A little attempt at a Navy SEAL adaptation on those last five of the 15. Let’s keep this going. Best thing about burpees, you can do them anywhere. And don’t barefoot. You can do them without shoes. You can do it barefoot or without shoes, or you can wear shoes. But you don’t need any equipment. Just some heart and some motivation. Just do 10. Tell me how you’re getting your Tell me how you’re getting your exercise. Tell me how you’re getting your exercise. So that’s my three sets for today. I got it in. Eat, sleep, workout, repeat. We got five people on the challenge clock. Coach Boucher, Corey Lockhart, Harrison Robinson Jr. Coach Kim Seals, coach Kez McCorvey. All right, everybody, I need a breather. It’s still probably, like 100 degrees up in here.
